This might have been my weirdest year yet. My word for 2022 was Clarity, and I set some goals but tried to take it very easy on myself. Check out how I started the year here, and read on to see how the year shook out…
CLARITY
I wanted this word to impact multiple layers of my life. I was hoping to get clear on work, life, finances, goals… I was hoping to clear clutter and clear outdated expectations… As often happens with picking these focus words, they often don’t work out the way I expect. Did getting TMS therapy help me gain mental clarity? I’m still not sure. I definitely wrapped the year in a clearer headspace, but that might partly be because I have had a year of rest, self-care, and healing. I think this was a good word for 2022. It gave me an intention to center on when life was wonky. That being said, I am grateful to put this word behind me.
GOALS
ACTIVITY
Mental and physical health held me up in this area in 2022. After several years of meeting my activity goals, I was sad to see this one drop by the wayside. Alas, I wasn’t meant to hit any of my activity goals. I missed too many barre classes and let my eating get out of control. I suffered an injury to my shoulder and my schedule got crazy with daily TMS treatments. I have to practice self-compassion around letting this go for 2022.
HOME
I did some work on getting clear at home, but this was another area plagued by unforeseen issues. It’s hard to deal with household emergencies like broken plumbing when you don’t have an income. especially when your PTSD is triggered by strangers coming to the house. There was also the roof issue. Sigh. I love being a homeowner, but I could use a break in this area of my life just like all the others. I did get a new mattress and rearranged my bedroom, and that has been awesome. I really do love my home.
READ
My goal for 2022 was to read 46 books. I managed to read 51! Thank goodness for audiobooks. The last book I finished was on November 19th, so I wrapped up the year on a reading drought. That’s okay, my goal was met. One area where I can give myself a green checkmark! DONE!
WRITE
My goal was to write six blogs for the year. Not counting this post, since I am writing it in January 2023, I wrote eights blogs. A few of those were simple writing exercises from a library book, but they still count. I did embark on a new project of making TikToks, which wasn’t planned. Find my TikToks via my Linktree here.
FINANCIAL
See above household emergencies… See above injuries, health issues, and TMS sessions… Let’s just say this area could be worse and I am immensely grateful.
SELF CARE
This was really the primary focus of the year. That doesn’t mean it was easy or that I did it well. I completely fell off my food addiction recovery program. I dropped off of my exercise. I didn’t go outside enough. I allowed myself to isolate from friends (who were all going through their own versions of hell.) So this was a double-sided coin for 2022. Let’s just say that I did my best.
SELF DEVELOPMENT
I was hoping to learn something new in 2022. I guess what I learned was how to make a very simple TikTok that doesn’t require editing or anything cool. Hey, it still counts.
Summary
Like I said at the outset, 2022 was weird. I’m grateful it is over and we can have a fresh start. Stay tuned for 2023 goals and focus.
