50 Things I Am Proud Of

When my TMS therapy started to kick in, the first thing I wanted to do was to write more. I checked out a couple of books on writing from the library and I’m using my blog as a platform to complete some of the tasks. You may be familiar with The Artist’s Way, and one of the books, The Right to Write, is by the same author, Julia Cameron. The other book was suggested by a group that worked through a JC book together, it is Writing as a Path to Awakening by Albert Flynn DeSilver, which is designed to Read More

Books vs Movies 2020

I have a lot of goals for 2020. I guess you could say that I am a goal-oriented kind of person. Some of my goals are kind of random. For instance, I noticed several movie trailers around the holidays for movies based on books that I had read. Some of these books I hadn’t read since I was a kid, so I thought it would be a great idea to re-read some of them before seeing the movies… because I have to see the movies. I like to see ALL of the movies anyway, but if I read the book Read More

My Favorite Fantasy

This month for book club, I read two fantasy books. Is it right and proper for someone with a degree in English literature to admit that they prefer fantasy books above all others? That’s not going to surprise anyone, is it? It is a close call between fantasy, horror, and sci-fi when trying to pinpoint my favorite genre. Yes, I love the classics and have even been known to argue in favor of a literary canon – everyone should read Shakespeare, even in high school – but fantasy is the genre I return to when I want to lose myself Read More

Nothing to Say

Speechless? ME? It will come as a surprise to most of my friends – and definitely to my family – for me to say that I have recently found myself more and more frequently at a loss for words. How do you write a blog when you don’t have anything to say this week? I believe you do this the same way you do most difficult things – you just do it anyway. Has Trina finally used up all the words? One of my book clubs is reading Vox soon. This is a book where women can only speak 100 Read More

How I Lost 100 lbs in 500 Days – Bright Line Eating, Part 1

My most personal blog yet… How I Lost 100 lbs in 500 Days The problem… These stories always start with, “I’ve struggled with weight loss all of my life.” I’m not sure that’s true for me. Sometimes it wasn’t a struggle. I lost a lot of weight without trying while I was going through my first divorce. (“It was really easy once I lost the first 200 lbs!”) Then I started to gain weight when I got my first desk job. I didn’t hate myself or struggle with it every day. I was doing pretty well. I just ate out Read More

READ THIS BOOK – The Hate U Give

When my best friend asked if I was aware of this book, I said no. She read the entire book in one day and couldn’t put it down. I saw her a few days later, and she put the book in my hands. I’m a slow reader, so it took me a couple of days, but The Hate U Give is a serious page-turner. It’s YA, so that often leads to a quick read, but you may already know that YA can also handle some dead serious subject matter. I cried. I laughed. I felt overwhelmed, angry, sad, and guilty. Good Omens: Is it too late to have the Apocalypse?

This may be my year of re-reading books. I decided to cut my reading goal in half this year, because I want to spend more time writing. I also find that what-to-read voice inside my head turning frequently to books I have already read. And there’s another thing… I have an utterly embarrassing love of anything written by Neil Gaiman. This is not the first of his book that I have read repeatedly. I probably shouldn’t be ashamed – he’s really, really good – but it’s probably the literary equivalent of saying that you love The Beatles. But Neil (I Read More
